John 4 “Love Overflowing”
January 14th, 2009A search for water leads the Samaritan woman to have an encounter with Jesus at the well. In Jesus’ day, rabbis did not talk to women publicly and Jews did not get along with Samaritans. This particular woman was an outsider, a social outcast who had been married 5 times with a past that haunted her. She had been rejected. Perhaps that is why she chose the hottest part of the day to draw water at the well; so she could be alone. Instead, she found that Jesus was at the well.
God’s love gushes like water and sustains us all. Our past is no match for the love of God. As this woman brought her empty jar to the well to be filled, she also brought her empty self, not suspecting to be filled that day with the ever-flowing fountain of God’s love. She needed a new life that only Jesus could give.
The Samaritan woman left her waterpot at the well because she had the living water within her and was now satisfied. What is needed in your life to quench your thirst? Are you feeling dry spiritually? Jesus says…
John 4:13-14 NLT
“…Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
Go ahead, quench your thirst.

I like the part where the townspeople believed because of her testimony, yet took their belief one step further. No longer did they believe because of what she said, they went and heard for themselves and knew that this man really is the Savior of the world. They believed and then they developed their own relationship for themselves.
Father, help me not just lean on anyone else’s testimony of you. My desire is to know you for myself. You only can quench my thirst. In Jesus, Nancy

Nancy:
I agree with you. After reading that I realized that I have to know Jesus for myself not for what someone tells me or from what someone saids. The only way to learn him for myself is to read the Word continously and that is what I am going to do. That way I can go to a deeper level with him.
Lord, I am asking that you open my mind and my heart to receive you more. I am asking that you reveal to me the things I don’t know so that I can know you for myself and not from what somebody else tells me. In Jesus Name, Amen!!

Great responses! We all need to learn to be self-feeders and find our personal Jesus. I have been seeking for 3 years & still find my flesh fighting against wanting to read my read word & go deeper. I too say, Jesus, help me get past complacency & go to a deeper personal level with you! I am also fasting from secular TV this 21 days, trying to use more time in my word & prayer

I am encouraged by you’re comments…I am also desiring to know more of God be merely experiencing Him in my life aside from the learning I gain from the others’ testimonies. God is the only source of the Living Water. May we have the heart to know more of Jesus by seeking Him first. God bless

Just like Jesus called out the woman at the well… ‘where is your husband?’… to point out her sin and need for him, I find during fasting that he calls me out too.
Where is your empathy? Long-suffering? Patience? Kindness? (fill in the blank)
Why do you judge others and not yourself with the same standards?
Who do YOU say that I am ?
From His well will flow rivers of living water !

34“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.”
That’s a good verse to focus on during this fast.
